On behalf of our friends &
family here at Aqua Posse, thank you for your interest in our team!
We are a proud El Paso tradition and look forward to having
your child join us.
History
The El Paso
Aqua Posse is a year-round competitive swim team that was founded
in 1957 as a non-profit, professionally coached swimming
organization. It has since grown into El Paso's largest and
most active swim team.
Over the
past 50 years, Aqua Posse has produced hundreds of champions
(including many state and national champs!), Olympic Trial
Qualifiers, Top 16 National Swimmers and many record holders.
Many of our swimmers move on to swim on the collegiate
level.
Philosophy
Our philosophy is based on the vision of Hall of Fame Coach Leo
Cancellare and comes down to three simple principles:
Work Hard. Swim Fast. Have
Fun!
Coaching Staff
Our coaches
have many years experience. All were accomplished swimmers
themselves and are USA certified and members of the American
Swimming Coaches Association.
Competitions
Because
Aqua Posse swimmers are on a competitive team, participation in
meets is required. Most of our meets take place at the Tigua
Wellness Center in the Lower Valley, and are scheduled
approximately once a month during the Short Course season and every
couple weeks during the Long Course season.
Aqua Posse
competes on three levels:
Del Norte -
for 12 and under swimmers with limited experience
Invitationals - locally and out of town
State,
Regional and National meets - for swimmers who qualify
Your
child's coaches will help guide you toward the appropriate
competitions for your swimmer.
Schedule
The El Paso
Aqua Posse runs two seasons - Short Course (during which the
athletes swim in 25 yard pools) runs August - March. Long
Course (during which the athletes swim in 50 meter pools), runs
April - July and is designed for experienced swimmers.
Aqua Posse
practices at several pools around the region - from the Socorro
Aquatic Center in East El Paso to the Leo Cancellare Memorial Pool
in West El Paso. Practice groups are arranged by our coaches
and swimmers' abilities. The number of practice days per
week depends upon to which group the athlete is assigned and ranges
from three days a week to six days a week.
Dues
Aqua Posse
is a non-profit organization and all attempts are made to ensure
our team is affordable to all. Dues payments go directly
toward coach compensation and pool time.
It costs
$30 (a one-time charge) to register as a new swimmer for Aqua
Posse.
The annual
USA Swimming/Border registration fee is paid through Aqua Posse and
is $69 per swimmer.
The amount
of monthly dues charged depends upon the swimmer's assigned
practice group. The fee schedule is highlighted in the
registration contract.
Swimmers
are also responsible for meet fees charged for each
competition.
Dues and
fees are collected on a monthly basis. All swimmers must
provide a credit card or bank draft in order to participate in Aqua
Posse.
Parents are
also required to serve as volunteers on our team during our "home"
meets. It's a fun way to get to know our families and helps
support our mission!
